Do Your Little Bit of Good

And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias; and he was added to the eleven apostles.
-Acts 1:26

Matthias isn’t very well known.  He is the apostle that replaced Judas after Judas died. This is the one and only mention of him in the New Testament. But just because he wasn’t mentioned doesn’t mean he was insignificant.  His name comes up in some later writings about the wonderful ministry he was able to accomplish.

Matthias makes me wonder about my own want for acknowledgement.  I would much rather be St Paul, St Peter, or St John, than Matthias.  But in all honesty, most of us are like Matthias.  We will do the best we can to love God and love our neighbors and we might not ever get mentioned again. But getting our names mentioned was never a part of the Gospel message. Instead, we work to make sure that the name of Jesus is mentioned, and the love of Jesus is felt.

Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu once said, “Do your little bit of good where you are; it's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”  Keep doing your bits of good, even if acknowledgment never comes.

God Bless you and keep you,
Matt+
