Our Music Program

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises!

-Psalm 98:4

Music at St. Timothy's

St. Timothy’s music is simply inspiring. Our talented choir of dedicated singers offer music and lead the congregation in singing every Sunday from September through May at the 10:00 AM service. Our services feature music by Renaissance English composers such as William Byrd and Thomas Tallis; American composers David Hurd, E. Titcomb, and T.F. Candlyn; English composers Bob Chilcott, John Rutter, R. Vaughan Williams and others; as well as spirituals by William L. Dawson, André Thomas, and R. Nathaniel Dett and beautiful arrangements of our sacred hymnody from the 1982 Hymnal. St. Timothy’s also uses the Wonder, Love, and Praise hymnal and Taizé music in congregational worship. We support the beautiful liturgies of the Episcopal church through music, and seek to glorify God and feed his people.

Throughout the year, the addition of musical instruments such as harp, violin, flute, trumpet, and other brass enhance the musical offerings of the choir. Singers are always welcome to join and help us make a joyful noise unto the Lord. Choir rehearsals are Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM.

St. Timothy’s is blessed with extremely talented and dedicated professionals that lead our music program. We are led by our Music Director, Ryan Ebright, and our organist, Michael Gartz.

Chanted Compline at St. Tim’s

St. Tim’s offers candlelit, chanted Compline services on the second Tuesday of the month at 8pm, September–April.

The term “Compline” derives from the Latin completorium—completion of the working day. As the bedtime prayers of the church, Compline tends to be a contemplative experience that emphasizes quietness, reflection, and spiritual peace. In many convents and monasteries, it is customary to begin the “Great Silence” after Compline, during which the whole community, including guests, observes silence throughout the night until the morning service the next day. Our offering of Compline seeks to keep this contemplative spirit.

Our service follows the Order for Compline laid out in the Book of Common Prayer and is chanted by a small schola of singers. We begin and end with silence. The entire service lasts approximately 30 minutes. Congregants are welcome to join in the chanting as noted in the service bulletin or to worship in meditative silence.

TPF: Discovers Music Series

St. Tim’s is proud to host the Discovers Music Series of Timothy’s Perrysburg Foundation, which offers musical concerts, free of charge, featuring a variety of professional artists and genres of music. The concerts regularly draw large crowds and families with young children.
