An “Easy” Button

“My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.”
2 Corinthians 12:9a

Sometimes I wish I had an “Easy” button.  Honestly, I think we could all use an easy button from time to time...or most of the time.  In Paul’s second letter to the church in Corinth he tells them that he has been asking God for an easy button.  He says he has been struggling with a “thorn in the flesh” and that God hasn’t removed it.  It has been hotly debated what this “thorn” means.

I think it is left vague on purpose so that we might be invited to put our struggles and hardships into the verse. Paul, like us, wishes God would just fix his problems with the divine “Easy” button.

The small section quoted above is God’s response to Paul’s plea. God is saying that he isn’t going to fix it all, but he will show up and cover us with grace while we work through our hardships and struggles.  God is saying he will help carry us when we go through tough times, but he won’t remove the tough times.  It is God’s faithful presence of grace throughout all the areas of our lives that points to his perfect power.  We might not be able to boast that we have an easy life with no problems, but we do get to boast in our God’s faithfulness and grace that helps us move forward not matter what “thorns in the flesh” we encounter.

May you always know that God’s grace is sufficient for all.
