The fourth Discovers concert of this season will pivot to selections from Broadway and the silver screen. In a varied program curated by Perrysburg resident and soprano soloist Sara Ebright, a quartet of singers and accompanist will highlight some well-known and beloved music from the 1920’s – 1940’s on Sunday, June 9 at 3:00 pm. Doors open at 2:30 pm.
Entitled “You’re the Top” from Cole Porter’s Anything Goes, the recital will include “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” from the Wizard of Oz, “Embraceable You” from Girl Crazy, and “When You Wish Upon a Star” from Pinocchio. Ms. Ebright and company have also prepared some delightful compositions which may be new to audiences, including “Four Encore Songs” by the noted American composer Florence Price, “Sure on This Shining Night” by Samuel Barber and “It’s Got to be Love” from On Your Toes by Rodgers and Hart.
Admission is free, and there is no reserved seating. St. Timothy Episcopal church is located at 871 East Boundary, Perrysburg. The facility is accessible and offers ample parking.
St. Tim’s Discovers, a program administered by the Timothy’s Perrysburg Foundation, is a series dedicated to bringing classical music to communities throughout Northwest Ohio. The recitals are offered free of charge; donations are accepted at all events.
About the Performers:
The singers are all based in Northwest Ohio and have extensive performance experience. Soprano Sara Ebright trained at the well-known Peabody Conservatory. Local audiences most recently saw her in the Toledo Opera chorus of Ragtime.
Soprano Cheryl Babb has been a regular presence in Toledo, including performing with the Canterbury Singers and as a guest recording artist with the international champion barbershop quartet “The Ritz”.
Tenor Brock Burkett, choir director for Maumee City Schools, was most recently seen as the Cat in the Hat, with the Waterville Playshop production of Seussical.
Bass Ryan Ebright is a faculty member at Bowling Green State University, College of Musical Arts. Dr. Ebright performs with NOVA and is the choir director for St. Timothy’s Episcopal church.
Accompanist for all selections will be Toledo native Michael Gartz. Michael has served as an accompanist, teacher and organist for BGSU, Toledo Diocesan Choir at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral, Trinity Episcopal and currently as organist at St. Timothy’s.
