Everything has become new!

So, if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!

-2 Corinthians 5:17

I used to read this verse in the future tense.  I thought some day in the future God will make all things new.  I would think of how nice it will be one day when God finally takes care of all the brokenness and hurt in the world and makes it all new.  But this verse is not in a future tense. It is in the present.  One translation (NIV) reads “The new is here!” Saint Paul encourages us to know that if we are surrounding ourselves with the love of Christ, we can see the newness that already exists all around us.

Often times I’m in my own head and full of worries and fear.  This short verse reminds to take a moment to be in Christ instead.

If you find yourself stuck in your head this week, I encourage you to ask,

How does the God who loves me and saves me see these things?”
How is Jesus interacting with the world?
What can I do to live into the newness that God is creating right now?

May you see everything in a new way this week.
