Armor of God

Therefore take up the whole armor of God.
-Ephesians 6:13a

Ephesus was a place full of Roman soldiers.  They were the top of the pecking order in that time and place.  In this letter, Paul uses the imagery of the common Roman Soldier to explain how he expects the church to be different.

  • Belt of truth

  • Breastplate of righteousness

  • Shoes that make you ready to proclaim the Gospel of peace

  • Shield of faith

  • Helmet of salvation

  • Sword of spirit

To be honest I don’t identify with the garb of a Roman soldier, but I do understand that people choose their clothing for specific and sometimes practical purpose.  Some wear long sleeves and hats to protect them from the sun. Others wear jeans with just the right holes in them to look cool.  As you choose the clothing that will surround you this day, may you be reminded of God’s love and faithfulness that is closer to you then the clothes could ever be. May you be clothed with readiness to proclaim the Gospel of peace. And may you hold fast to the importance of truth and doing the right thing.
