Connection Over Convenience

The Lord God said, “It is not good that the human should be alone.”
-Genesis 2:18a

As an introvert I often want to argue with this passage. But the truth is, if I spend too much time alone, I become lonely. With the loneliness comes sadness, depression, questions of purpose, and apathy.  Since 2020, and most likely before then too, we have been dealing with a loneliness epidemic.  Somehow, in a world with more ways to connect than ever before we find ourselves feeling more disconnected.

Sometimes I find myself wanting convenient fixes to this loneliness problem. But community is not about convenience. Community is about sacrifice, care, and seeing beyond ourselves. I think about how God showed up for humanity in Jesus. It was not convenient, or easy, but it was full presence mixed with humility.

I hope that you are able to be fully present with another human,
May you seek connection over convenience, and
May you be filled the life-giving Spirit of our communal God.
