Lectors participate in the service by reading the lessons. Eucharistic Ministers may also read the lesson and assist the Rector serve Communion. Lay Readers are licensed by the Bishop to serve in place of the Rector in leading Morning Prayer and occasionally delivering the sermon. 

Requirements to serve in these positions include poise, good speaking abilities and a strong voice, unflappability, and a good understanding of the Bible. Applicants for these ministries are tested for the appropriate skills. Once accepted, training is provided.
