Mobile Clothesline

Thoughts from a Volunteer

My first time volunteering for the Mobile Clothesline was on November 9th.  We were preparing to begin distributing clothing and personal products when I noticed a little girl about 4 years old.  She had on a winter coat, but summer sandals that were too small, no socks, no mittens, and no hat. The temperature was 32 degrees and she was shivering while standing in line in a cold parking lot.  I could feel the presence of the Holy Spirit, as I searched through the donations and found a pair of pretty pink boots in just her size.

The rule for distribution is that after everyone has gone through the line, if there are items remaining, people can go through the line a second time.  Some time later, I looked down to see the same little girl holding a stuffed animal she had found in the donation basket.  She looked up to me and as I assured her that she could keep it, I was rewarded with a shy smile.  At that moment I knew why I volunteered my Saturday.

The clothing, shoes and socks, and personal products that you provide for this mission of the church are going to children and adults right here in this greater area.

How Can You Help?

Mobile Clothesline teams up with our friends from the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo to help those in need. The Islamic Center provides food and St. Timothy’s provides clothing and personal hygiene items. Together our volunteers go to neighborhoods in need. You too can volunteer to help by calling our office at 419-874-5704 or by donating the following:

  • December 14 – toothpaste and toothbrushes
  • January 11 – deodorant and disposable razors
  • February 8 – toilet paper
  • March 14 – hand soap and dish soap
  • April 11 – small container of laundry detergent

Volunteer on the second Saturday of the month to help prepare and pack 300 hot meals at the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo (ICGT) kitchen. The meals are then distributed at 3 sites throughout Perrysburg and Toledo.

11 am – 12:15 pm: Prepare and pack meals at ICGT kitchen, 25877 Scheider Rd., Perrysburg, OH 43551
12:25 pm – 12:45 pm: Distribution at Perrysburg Heights Community Center (PHCC), 12282 Jefferson St., Perrysburg, OH 43551
1:00 pm – 1:20 pm: Distribution at Helping Hands of St. Louis, 443 Sixth St., Toledo, OH 43605
1:25 pm – 1:45 pm: Distribution at Toledo Masjid Al Islam, 722 E. Bancroft St., Toledo, OH 43608

Thank you to everyone who has donated or will donate to this worthwhile cause. The Mobile Clothesline clients really appreciate your contributions.
