Canterbury Singers, USA
Continuing int he tradition of Jim Metzler, The Canterbury Singers, USA is an incorporated group of Toledo choral musicians interested in the musical traditions of the Anglican/Episcopal Church. It is one of the most popular American choral organizations singing in residence at English Cathedrals.
With 17 choral tours during the last 20+ years, the Canterbury Singers, USA served as the professional choir-in-residence at numerous cathedrals. These include Norwich, Guildford, Salisbury, Canterbury, Durham, York Minster, Ely, Christ Church (Oxford), St. Paul’s (London), and on several occasions at Westminster Abbey in London. The choir also sang for multiple services at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. In August 1995, the ensemble was the only American choir invited to sing for VJ Day 50th Anniversary Commemoration Services held throughout England. The Chaplain for the British Armed Forces requested that the choir provide the music. The service at York Minster Cathedral was given in the Royal Presence of the Duke and Duchess of Kent.
Comprised of choral musicians residing in six states, the Canterbury Singers gather for rehearsals at the English site. After individually learning all the choral music in advance, they sing all choral services for the period of time it is invited to be in residence.
