Communion Enrichment for Children

Designed for 2nd through 5th graders (translated  “early readers”), the Communion Enrichment program helps us fulfill the promise made at baptism – to do all in our power to support the newly baptized in their life in Christ – as we assist children and their families in deepening their understanding of God’s gift of the Holy Eucharist.  For some of the children, this may serve as a first communion class.  For others, it will provide an opportunity to explore together the pieces and meaning of our liturgy.

Each week will include an instructed eucharist, along with projects and activities to enhance the lessons.  This permits us to go into greater depth about Holy Communion than our Church School schedule allows. We’ll discuss Bible lessons, compose a Book of Prayers and a Book of Thanks, create banners and posters, learn songs, and bake the Communion bread for the parish. Sessions will be held on six Saturday mornings (three in January and three in February with a two-week break in the middle). During the last session, our activities will include baking communion bread and sharing a pizza lunch to celebrate the conclusion of the class.
