Milestones in the History of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church

Brief History of St. Timothy's

"In response to the very careful work done by the Toledo Regional Council in connection with a projected Perrysburg Mission, and the recommendations of the Council, I am now ready to take action which we hope will lead to the establishment of the Mission."

So wrote the Rt. Rev. Nelson M. Burroughs, Bishop of the Diocese of Ohio, to the Council secretary on July 21, 1961, thereby establishing a beginning history of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, Perrysburg, Ohio.

Continuing a timeline:
October 17, 1961 -- At a meeting called by the Bishop, a majority of nearly 100 prospective members indicate an interest in starting a new church.

December, 1961 -- First meeting of steering committee, followed by Bishop's appointment of a Bishop's Committee.

Jan. - Feb., 1962 -- St. Timothy's adopted as name; arrangements made to worship in Presbyterian Church.

March 11, 1962 -- First Sunday service in Presbyterian Church, hastily transformed to our version of an Episcopal chancel and sanctuary.

July, 1963 -- Ground breaking ceremony for new building on newly acquired five acres of land.

March 1, 1964 -- First Sunday service in new building -- two years after our founding.

January, 1970 -- St. Timothy's becomes a self-supporting Parish.

November 23, 1985 -- First major building expansion of new classrooms and office, parish hall and kitchen, and addition of brick courtyard with serpentine fence.

Fall, 1995 -- Second major building addition of new Sunday School wing and expansion of sanctuary.  At same time air-conditioning is added to sanctuary and new lighting to parking lot.

December, 2004 -- The Rev. C. Eugene Pearson, our fourth clergyman, retires after 24 years.

November, 2004 --The Rev. Bryant Dennison is appointed interim rector.

December, 2006 --The Rev. Kenneth Pepin starts as full time rector, our fifth clergyman.
